INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION
VOICES arrives in High Schools!
Celebrating the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Secondary Schools
In honor of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, selected high schools across Greece, Italy, and Belgium opened their classrooms to VOICES From Migrations - a EU-funded project bringing together university students and migrant citizens in a shared effort of remembrance, dialogue, and inclusion.
Participating schools hosted a special screening of the new “VOICES” video feature, depicting the lived experiences of 13 migrant citizens. Their stories span decades, from the 1950s to the present day, offering a rich and nuanced portrait of migration in Europe. The profuction highlights its protagonists in all their diversity; from contemporary accounts of resilience and courage to personal reflections on identity, family, and navigating life between cultures.
Across all schools, the screening were complemented by interactive activities, including guest speakers from migrant backgrounds, quizzes to engage students’ prior knowledge, and open discussions on how to create inclusive environments where everyone feels safe and welcome - no matter their ethnicity or country of origin.
The initiative stands as a testament to the dedication of the VOICES participants: university students across Europe who put themselves to the test by conducting challenging interviews in different languages. Equally central are the migrant citizens who chose to share their stories, contributing to a growing archive that will inform and inspire future generations.
